Chakraberia Sarbajanin - Winner of 2010 Asian Paints Sharad Samman

Durga Puja festival is more popular for its social connotations rather than religious nuance. The celebration takes place in all parts of India and also at abroad. But for the Bengalees in West Bengal, the celebration provides the opportunity to understand the ‘Bengali spirit’ and vibrancy, more deeply and affectionately. This year, Chakraberia Sarbajanin Durgotsab committee is celebrating the 65th year of the Durga Puja festival scheduled to commence on Sunday, the magical day which comes once on a thousand years, i.e 10.10.10

In the present time, our olden day’s tradition has been partially affected by the affluence of themes. Chakraberia Sarbajanin Durgotsab committee has a keen desire to come with a virtuous feel of traditionalism. That is why, this club is going to present something different with the catchline “ Sanatani Shatarupa” this year. A unique, practically articulated with innovative and traditional dresses of the Goddess conceived by Shri. Siddhartha Pal. The colours used in the Deity are all leaded free. Here everything is embellished with deep traditional touch, but the execution is distinctive. In lieu of Saari, Maa Durga will be dressed with the kolaj of applics, Golden jewelry will be replaced with ‘Tulsi Mala’ and ornaments made of thread.

The Pandal and its surrounding ambience will have the distinctiveness as perceived by Shri.Shib Sankar Das and the entire thought has been expressed by him. The Pandal and all interior decorations will have several self-creative and displayable artistic events. At the main entrance there is big courtyard, followed by a huge “Mashal”, from where the colorful flags will be scattered here and there. The colors used are red, blue, yellow and green. Your vision can also shift to six “Chalchittras”. Here also, the execution is exclusive. Aplic work has been done instead of ‘Patchitra’. The arms of Maa Durga have been embossed on the Aluminum and brass sheets. On the middle of the podium, Maa will be sited with the glory of “Dasamahabidya” (Symbolically embossed). The entire area will be illuminated by Shri. Debu Bhattacharya and his associates.

Social commitments: Chakraberia Sarbajanin Durgotsab committee is eying forward for the inaugural moment. This is one of the most outstanding and reputed Club in South Kolkata who gained great prominence and wide recognition in this Metropolis part through organizing various social, cultural and sports activities. Chakraberia Sarbajanin Durgotsab committee has been working for the necessities of lives of the downtrodden, poor and destitute class in the locality. Every year they arrange Blood donation Camp, Sit and Draw Competition and many more . This year, on the auspicious day of inauguration, Chakraberia Sarbajanin Durgotsab committee is donating Wheel Chairs and Tri cycles to more than 150 handicapped people.

Last but not least, our favourite “Bumba Da” (Prasenjit Chatterjee), hon’ble Police Commissioner Shri. Goutam Mohan Chakraborty and the famous Fashion Designer, Smt. Agnimitra paul will be present on 10. 10. 10 to inaugurate the puja.
